SIS, safety isolation system has been specifically developed to isolate electrical supply to roadside structures, in the event that they are struck and to allow safe maintenance operations. As more passive safe columns are been introduced to the road network, crash evidence has shown an increased risk of cable damage under impact. For this reason electrical safety isolation SIS is a must with all passive safe projects.

 

SIS fully complies with BSEN 12767 (BS European norm standard for passive safety of support structures for road equipment.)

The system comprises of 3 components: Monitoring board, Circuit breaker and Impact sensor. The impact sensor is mounted on the illuminated structure. Each impact sensor is connected via a circuit breaker to a SIS monitor board (SIS QUAD for Traffic signals & SIS SOLO for Street lighting/signage), forming a closed circuit.

 

Under impact the activated impact sensor provides open circuit & the monitor

board will remotely trip all associated circuit breakers. The monitor board

can also send an activation output to any connected remote monitoring

system.

 

Tests have shown SIS cuts the supply & provides zero voltage between 80 & 140 milliseconds.

 

SIS has additional benefits providing local electrical isolation, to allow maintenance operations. This is valuable feature when designing for future maintenance, complying with CDM principles.

 

Tested to EN50293:2000 (EMC testing) and TR2130C/BS 7987 (Environmental testing) the system will fully meet your needs when designing for passive safety.

A 4 channel monitoring device specifically designed for isolating an electricity supply to traffic signal poles, under impact or for maintenance/decommissioning.

 

The equipment is designed to fit into a 3u rack, in either the existing controller or a stand alone MEC cabinet.

A single channel din rail mounting device specifically for isolating an electricity supply to a single structure, or single circuit feeding multiple structures under impact.

 

SIS SOLO can be supplied as a basic unit to fit any enclosure with suitable 35mm top hat din rail, making it ideally suited to fitting within an existing distribution panel in a local feeder pillar.
