I'm the author of this book, and currently working on my second book, a novel.

Photography is a welcome distraction, procrastination, a way to see the world beyond words. Still, I find myself drawn to the same qualities in photography that I admire in fiction: character, narrative, the tension of hope and despair.

I am humbled and inspired by all the amazing work here on Flickr. For me, compelling images are the best tutorials and I favourite anything I can learn from.

I bought my first DSLR, a D80 in March 2009, so really, I'm just starting out. What I love about taking pictures is that, like writing, it's a day to day evolution, something you practice and get better at over a lifetime.
