What is it that can give you a feeling that there is something quite different over there? palmtreeworldwide found 856 moments that is inbetween two(or more) different spirits of space. Architecture, a simple structure that differentiates the light, people, activities, the smell, the air, the flooring or the color...etc. It is definately something more than a barrior or a divider sort of thing. And the most fun part of this is that there is always something going on. Usually these happenings suppose to be very eyecatching. But when each spirits are very old and settled down, the middle happening usually become calm and steady as a tree.

Two years have past since we started our research. We are based in Seoul & New York while we are popping up our heads in different spots all over the world. We are planning a couple more years for research, and a couple projects will be coming the end of this year. We are looking forward to update you asap!

1년이 지났습니다. 더 가까이 가고 싶고 더 노력하고 있습니다. 야자수가 우리에게 다가오도록 가끔은 기다리고, 가끔은 그를 향해 한걸음씩 나아가고 있습니다.

다양한 프로젝트가 최근에 언급되고 계획되었습니다. 언제든지 좋은 생각이나 코멘트 그리고 태도를 지니셨으면 주저말고 연락부탁드립니다.

A window is a mysterious thing: a divider, boundary, but also a functional form which also displays, reflects and connects the outside and the inside. Through our search of windows(where our palm fronds live), various forms and lights they absorb, we try to study how these human made structures capture the in betweenness of the opposed factors.

We are two young aesthetes N and J seeking palm trees all around the world.

In Matisse's Paintings, a palm tree or a couple palm fronds painted near by a window is easy to find. To Matisse, these palm trees became a material to brush a sense of the light, life and the beauty of that very moment. Inspired deeply by Matisse, we try to seek our own palm fronds using our small tools. Every corner where light sneaks into darkness, it must be worthwhile to hunt for our palm tree.

두명의 미술학도 J와 N양은 뉴욕의 허름한 미술학교 랩실에서 만납니다. 그들의 이십대 청춘은 방황과 희망으로 넘쳐납니다. 두명은 건축을 전공하지는 않지만 공간과 건축의 개념을 열렬히 찬양하며 빛이 어떤 모습으로 공간에 형성되는지 유의깊게 연구합니다. 이 팜트리월드와이드도 그 연구의 일부분입니다. 둘은 같은 홍대앞 거리에서 가슴아픈 입시미술을 경험한 바가 있으며 디자인 업종에 관련이 깊습니다.

두 미술학도에게도 다른 많은 친구들처럼 확고한 폴리틱스, 월드뉴스를 연구하며 비장한 자세로 세상을 변화시키고자 하는 일이 존경스럽고 멋져보이지만 그보다 두 미술학도는 소극적이지만 지속적인 태도를 가지고 그들의 소박한 도구로 마티스의 뒤를 잇고자 합니다. 비록 사람을 살리는 것만큼 원대한 포부를 가지지는 않았지만, 마티스에게는 화가로서 꼭 이루고 싶은 꿈이 있었습니다. 사람들이 그의 그림을 마주하는 순간만이라도 그 아름다움으로 세상사를 잊을 수 있는 여유를 제공하는 것이였습니다.

화가 마티스의 Nice 페인팅시리즈에는 항상 야자수가 등장합니다. 그 야자수의 가느다란 잎줄기를 통해 그는 빛의 자락을 표현합니다, 자신이 본 빛을 칠합니다. J와 N은 그 빛의 대상, 야자수를 끊임없이 찾고 있습니다.
