I typically use Darktable for my processing. I seek to keep processing alterations as global as possible, only occasionally using local masking for precise luma/chroma shifts and spot removal for transient blemishes that wouldn't normally be a part of the scene or subject. I never stack or composite photos, so all information within the photo remains extrapolated from the single original exposure.
