The annual Sweetwater Paddle for the Cure was created to bring kayakers and paddlers of all levels together to raise funds for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cell that is incurable but treatable.

The 1st annual event held April 2009 was a success with over 160 participants and more than $35,000 raised for cancer research.
