Ludovico Poggioli
Drag to set position!
Hi, my name is Ludovico Poggioli, I was born 41 years ago in Umbria, where I still live and work, always distracted and deeply in love. I often walk with a camera around my neck and my two dogs on leash and every now and then I take a photo that I still like the day after.
I choose analog photography because leaves me free to forget why I am shooting a shoot, because in every roll developed I find a shot that surprises me, because printing your own photos in the darkroom is exciting and every print is unique.
I love to shoot mostly landscapes, all the better in awful weather: the worse the weather the more I enjoy the experience. But recently I started including humans in my photos, mostly during my night walks, I like the silence and movement that I find in the slow shooting times used at night.
I’ve got too many cameras, really, but I always end up using the same ones: a Leica M6, the Olympus XA and my Hasselblad 500CM. I think I have tried every type of film available, and many developers too. Lately I have been using mostly traditional ISO 400 film: Trix 400, HP5+, Bergger 400, exposed from 200 to 1600 ISO as necessary. These are the films that give me a beautiful grainy effect, which for me is the key ingredient in photography.
I’d love one day to take a picture of the wind.
My favorites photographers are Klavidj Sluban, Michael Ackermann, Minor White, Mario Giacomelli, Saul Leitier… Luckily I’ve got a large bookcase.
I think that a good photo must leave some room for the observer, not reveal itself immediately, suggest rather than describe.
