"Somebody Might Wave Back"

The universe is a collection of photographs, waiting to be found, lost and re-discovered...

If one of my photos was a good as www.magnumphotos.com/Archive/C.aspx?VP=XSpecific_MAG.Phot... Cartier - Bresson, it would be a start! I think this is not a bad philosophy also www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm .

I suppose I am more of a photojournalist than an art photographer who goes out of his way to set up the perfect scene. Rather, I try to document where I have been, in the most pleasing and interesting way my skills allow.

With my travel photos, I have created sets to be viewed as slideshows, trying to make an impression of the respective places while the individual photos may be included for their contribution to the whole, more than for their individual merit.

Also, I have assembled some prints, postcards etc. on Redbubble!

In 2015, I self-published a book of favourite photos of my home city, Adelaide - Light and Stone which is available from Blurb au.blurb.com/b/8227742-adelaide and me.

In 2022, my photo "Bugged Out" was shortlisted for the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition, further encouraging this obsession....

In 2025 "A Question of Balance" was a finalist in the "People's First Bank Photographic Awards". The gallery is now accessible at publish.exhibbit.com/gallery/681642245510765836/two-rooms... It's a little tricky to navigate but you will find my photo at the end of the first room. It's worth exploring the two rooms and an honour to be chosen as a Finalist!

"A Question of Balance" was also nominated in the Refocus photographic awards in the Fine-Art category.

Why do I do all this? Well as Mike Scott of the Waterboys sang "we're riding through some place where I've never been and I'm waving through the window as we go. Somebody says what are you waving at? What do I have to lose? - somebody might wave back". I also have a new mantra, "Happiness is a warm shutter button!"
