I have been taking photographs for the last 50 years though mainly the last 40 years and am more of a happy snapper than a serious photographer but try to get the best and most creative results with the equipment at my disposal. In December 2024 I took the plunge and started shooting in Raw.
Equipment:
No longer in use
Canon Powershot S50 digital compact with 3x zoom
Panasonic TZ3 digital compact 28-280mm 10x zoom...
Nikon D80 DSLR.
..........................................................................................................
CAMERAS I AM USING CURRENTLY
Olympus D E-M10 MKII as mirrorless seems to be the way forward (May 2018) .
Canon G7 X compact 24-100mm 4.2x zoom
Olympus TG4 weatherproof/shockproof/underwater camera
Canon SX700 compact 25-750mm 30x zoom
I am happiest with a lightweight compact camera in my pocket and own three compacts to cover different situations.
October 2021 update : I have recently received as a special birthday present a Mavic Mini drone and am now taking lots of aerial shots.
March 2024 I have now added a Mini 4 Pro drone to my equipment.
I try to be a responsible flyer and have passed the CAA Theory test for flying a drone less than 250g in weight. I am also a registered operator and flyer.

I loved going through the photographs and had lots of favourites but gazed for a long time at the goosander in flight over the water as the colours were mesmeric. In general you have a gift for capturing all of the scenes in just the right light. You should become a professional.

Ospreywatcher. What can I say? Firstly,he has the second best "flickr name" on the site, but thats by the by really. What you get with Ospreywatcher (other than the good name!) is a large set of technically very accomplished photographs. From exquisite detailed close-up macro shots of flowers, butterflies and insects, to incredible thought-provoking landscapes (very often completely unique on the site) through to wonderful shots of our feathered friends, and pretty-well everything in between! If I had to describe Ospreywatcher's photographs in three words, those words would be compelling, colour and composition. His images literally drip colour from the monitor - big, bold, brave photographs - not at all easy to achieve successfully in my opinion. And then. To top it all. He throws in the most delightful black and white image I've ever seen on this site. Look for a bridge in silhouette (you'll not miss it!) and you'll see exactly what I mean. Viewpoints seem particularly important in Ospreywatcher's stream also. I have no idea how he sees the shots he does, but I'm so glad he does. And finally there's the amazing consistency. Maybe its just one photo a day - but its ALWAYS worth looking at. Thats a good trick that - and one I should certainly try to learn from. Ospreywatcher, OW, Iain, your photographs are some of the most inspirational on this site, and your sense of humour is a breath of fresh air . Keep up the wonderful photography, forcing mortals like me to push myself in my hobby! TBR
