Ofer Shani (aka Osh) of Hertzliya, Israel is one of the most interesting people I’ve met on Flickr. I will attempt to describe him: Hedonistic. Child-like. Wise. Spiritual. A yoga master. A world-traveler. And, a food gourmand. I find myself wondering if Osh travels just for the food, or just to Flickr. Between the summer of 2006 till now he has met and posed with Israeli Prime Minister, Shimon Peres; the director of “What the Bleep Do We Know?”, Mark Vicente; and, Caterina Fake, the co-founder of Flickr. Also in the last year Osh has relocated from his Manhattan lifestyle in NYC back home to Israel, and traveled to France, Germany, and Italy. Osh has been an amazing inspiration to me to simply keep taking pictures, and the magic of Osh is the simple, profound ability to just live life, love it, and notice everything around you.

The night NRG was supposed to launch, I stayed the night shift in order to see that everything was ok with the servers. I was new in Maariv (about two weeks) and didn't know Ofer. I only knew that he was one of the big bosses. And he stayed late that night too and when I ran out of smokes, he gave me a few of his last smokes without even thinking twice. With time, I gained more and more respect for Ofer and I admire him very much. His posture and confidence, and the fact that he never looked down on me (when the trend in Maariv seemed to be exactly that), is what makes me respect this man.
