I have never been a photographer. I usually carry a camera when I can remember it.
I'm definitely the "point and shoot" type of picture taker, and often am somewhat surprised by what I see in my photos.
I learned of Flickr by accident when I was surfing around Googlemaps and decided to look at Tsankawi, a place I visited almost half a century ago. Somehow, this led me to discover rovingmagpie, who has posted some terrific shots on Flickr. The rest is history.
I'm forever indebted to rovingmagpie for sharing his experiences with me, and for exposing me to this great forum which is so populated with such talented photographers.
I once said, "I may even be tempted to upload some photos someday", and now I'm wondering if I could ever exercise enough self control to stop before I become a nuisance?
I have decided that I'm going to turn over a new leaf. I enjoy my contact list! My first ten contacts just popped up in my Flickrmail, and thrilled me greatly! I was the "new kid", and Flickrs were noticing me enough to add me to their contacts.
Being a naturally timid soul, and not wanting to impose, I waited patiently for the contacts to reach out to me. Why should I do that? My contact list is for my benefit! It helps me to keep up with Flickrs whose photos I admire. I'm going to start actively building my contact list, and no longer wait timidly for a Flickr to choose me. I'm a Flickr too, aren't I?. Please don't interpret this as discouragement for you to put me on YOUR contact list first. I'll reciprocate.

I am sitting here with tears in my eyes after reading the testimonial that Willie C wrote for me, so I figure I will return the favor. :) All my life, I have been jealous of the visual artists in my family, led by my talented father and his camera. Though it took me decades to learn not to cut people's heads off, the reason I wanted to learn was because of the photographs that always graced our house. Willie C has an incomparable eye for beauty, and finds it in the simplest settings. His nature photography is fabulous, and his portraits always reveal the inner subject. I am honored to have learned some of what I know from him. :)
