From Generation to Generation

Growing trees is often a family affair for many people. Such is the case for me. My dad provided me with some inspiration as well as a good work ethic that kept me alive and thriving during my high school and college years. The planting bar I am holding became a living icon for my brother and me. In the early years it was way too heavy, so when my dad lost his grip while spudding an ice fishing hole in our pond it was a comic relief to see it go to the bottom. But come spring, I was the first one diving to find it. Like some sort of alien beacon there it was standing straight up stuck in the soft bottom covered with plants. Today my daughters have provided many hours of planting skills and lots of unusual music in the barn. Maybe someday I will give them the planting bar. Pass it on.
