I love the way a photograph can preserve a moment time. For ever. The way a photograph can immediately take you back in time and conjure up memories in the same way that a record or even a smell can.

I first noticed the power of pictures while staring for hours that the candid shots of Manchester streets taken by Samuel Coulthurst in the 19th century. I stared at them for ages trying to answer all the questions that photos asked about the people and the places.

After that I discovered Vivien Maier, Robert Frank, William Klein, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Henri Cartier Bresson, William Eggleston and the like.

I am now constantly influenced now by people on Flickr who have taught me that the subject can be anything. Nothing is right or wrong.
