A letter from Mark,

I’ve been in the printing business for a long time. Actually, it’s all I’ve ever done since I was still back in High School. The industry has changed some since then – actually it’s changed a lot! There are times when I think back to how we used to produce work compared to how we do it now. It’s really kind of surreal and a little scary too. Whole sectors of the industry have literally disappeared, along with the vendors who serviced them.

But some things haven’t changed and that includes our commitment to excellent client service, a higher level of craftsmanship and delivering the best value that we possibly can. Another thing that hasn’t changed is something we started out doing over 35 years ago and that’s Letterpress Printing! Who would have thought? I have enjoyed watching what had become an archaic, obsolete printing process blossom into a whole new art form! And it’s amazing what folks are now using Letterpress printing for. It’s not just fancy wedding invitations – it’s also business cards, packaging, marketing pieces, stationery – anything you want to make a statement with in the way of printed materials.

What really sets Letterpress printing apart from all other forms of printing is the tactile “bite” into the sheet of paper. No other process can do what Letterpress printing does. And while digital printing is convenient, quick and often cost effective, it’s – well, digital. It’s what we have become accustomed to seeing. Digital is colorful, glossy and so common we take it for granted.

Letterpress on the other hand is luxurious, beautiful, fun and just, well – amazing! Hand someone a well done Letterpress printed item and watch them look at it real closely, run their fingers over it, hold it at an angle to the light to see the impression. I don’t get the same reaction when I hand someone any other type of printed piece!

Another thing that’s changed is technology and the ability to publish something like this Flickr page – no surprise to anyone who’s reading this. What I find exciting about this is that on a regular ongoing basis we can keep in touch with you and show you the latest projects we are working on here at Norman’s Printery. And we get involved with a lot of really cool projects. We love a challenge and how cool is it that we can bring you in on the process of turning our latest challenge into our latest masterpiece. PS – Norman’s Printery is named after Norman Cordes, the founder of our parent company Cordes Printing. Though now retired, Norman had a passion for challenging projects and especially Letterpress printing. Norm’s passion lives on through Norman’s Printery!
