First of all, if you want to see some really good photography, don't look at my photostream, but at my 'favorites'...

I started taking pictures a long time ago, managed to become the Chief Photographer of my college newspaper, but then wandered all around the globe, without a darkroom and with little desire to take pictures I couldn't edit.

When I discovered digital in 2005 I found a darkroom in my computer, and I've visited it almost daily ever since.

Flickr is a marvellous tool for self-education by emulation: I'm continually delighted and amazed by the wonderful work people post here. Thank you all for your inspirational talent!

And just a little warning: I'm here as a 'serious' photographer, to exchange images and comments with others; if you're here to collect images, without sharing, I'm going to block you. Don't 'fave' my images without something to which I can return the compliment...

I love this sort of "depth" he manages to incorporate on his photos...it makes his work feels realistic yet presentable

Norm, or better known as "Padmakara" on Flickr is a quiet, down-to-earth, laid back gentleman with a deep understanding of photography and cameras. He won't readily flaunt his knowledge on discussion groups but if he's asked nicely, you'll learn a lot from his past experience. He's very polite when it comes to constructive criticism and I learned a very valuable lesson from him which I practice to this day - cropping for effect. Why "cropping"? It sounded too trivial for me at first. I tend to shoot at wide angles to get more stuff into the frame but there's more to an image than squeezing unnecessary details in the picture that can be distracting to the eye. Many thanks to you, Norm for all the advice you've given me. I always learn something new from looking at your photostream and from your frequent commenting on mine. I feel bad not being able to reciprocate your kindness as often as I would like; it's just that I ended up with too many Flickr contacts and it's just impossible for me to comment on their new uploads! ;-) Congratulations on owning a brand new Nikon D7000, with this great camera and the excellent AF 80-200mm f/2.8 ED telephoto zoom, you'll be taking your photography skills to an even higher level!
