The NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) or "NOAA Research" provides the research foundation for understanding the complex systems that support our planet. OAR is a line office with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Working with our partners within NOAA, the Federal government, academia, and the private sector, we provide unbiased science to better manage the environment, nationally and globally. Our preeminent research ultimately enables solutions that prevent loss of human life, improve management of natural resources, build understand of the Earth-system, and strengthen the economy.
