I took up photography 50 years ago and have been using digital equipment for about 20 years. I retired at age 59 and now have more time for photography. Joining Flickr in June 2007 has helped me immensely.
My profile name suggests I used Nikon equipment at that time, but I now have a collection of both digital and film cameras. I have covered most of the different genres over the years, but my main subject area is people and street photography. I started with a 70-300 zoom, but I am now happy to get up closer with various prime lenses.
All of my working life was spent as an aircraft engineer and was never particularly artistic, but I am trying to improve with help from other flickr members.
In Sept 2014, I started a degree course in photographic practice with Cardiff Metropolitan University. I hope this course will help develop as a photographer. This course was completed in 2020 during Covid lockdown.
The photographic talent on Flickr never ceases to amaze me.
I was born and bred in England and lived in a small village near Oxford for my early flickr years. I have lived in Cardiff since 2011.
After quite a few years, I have started using film again and will be posting scanned 35mm and 120 roll film pictures. I now have as many film cameras as digital. As of 2024 I shoot with a Sony a7iv, mainly because it is great for making images in the street.
