I recently had a little tidy-up of the people I follow here on Flickr and noticed that quite a few accounts are no longer active. I suppose people move on from Flickr for all sorts of reasons and sometimes, sadly, we may never know why. 😢
I also discovered that a number of people I had followed for a long time had quietly unfollowed me, so I decided it was probably time to do a little tidying of my own. 😄
I spend quite a lot of time each day looking through the work shared by the people I follow, leaving faves and supporting photographers/creators whose work and company I enjoy. By keeping that circle a little smaller, I can give more time and attention to the people who are still genuinely active and engaged here.
I completely understand that my work won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, just as not every photograph I see will necessarily be mine. That’s perfectly okay. For me, Flickr has always been about more than simply collecting followers; it’s also about friendship, encouragement, loyalty and supporting one another’s creativity.
Sometimes you simply realise that certain connections have faded, and although that can be a little disappointing when you once thought of someone as a friend, I’d rather concentrate my time on the people who still enjoy sharing that sense of community.
