The National Interagency Fire Center, NIFC, located in Boise, Idaho is the nation's support center for wildland fire. Nine agencies and organizations work together to manage wildfires and other incidents. Decisions are made using the interagency cooperation concept since NIFC has no single director or manager.

The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Weather Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Fire Administration, National Association of State Foresters, and Department of Defense help coordinate national fire planning and operations.
