Through my seascape paintings, I strive to create a moment of pause and peaceful contemplation for the viewer in what is a fast-paced world. Recapturing those moments of pure serenity, my acrylic paintings reminisce the beautiful coastal paths and beaches I have visited, locations that may also resonate with the viewer. I see art as a form of therapy. It is a mindful practice that also gives the artist a sense of purpose by engaging with their audience.
Much inspired by sculptor Barbara Hepworth and painter Alison Watts, natural forms are the pivotal area of focus in my work, whether it be caves, shells or drapery. Unveiling hidden beauty, I encourage the viewer to be in the present moment and to observe the world around them differently like through a child’s eye.
Working from my own photography, I use rich, contrasting colours and vibrant hues, presenting my scenic artworks with a dramatic and captivating undertone. I experiment painting onto different materials, including calico, linen and canvas. Occasionally, I lean towards sculpture to recreate the same landscapes using air-dry clay, stripping away the colours, textures and details to focus on their unique, organic forms.
