It's always very tricky trying to quantify what your own work is in one sentence, so the stuff that sometimes pays the bills is the concept images, while the stuff that actually pays the bills is via the agency I work for, a great company called 'Blue Frontier' based in the south of England. I like to think of the concept shots as individual frames from within a very unusual film, and actually I am moving into trying to incorporate this material into video/film. I love creating the surreal in ordinary environments or creating images which have a back story or concept, as well as trying to make the seemingly impossible look ultra realistic.

My background is a mixture of corporate, commercial and advertising video and film based around travel, portrait, food, lifestyle and product. After 16 years at IBM, with a fair amount of international travel, I've went straight into a tiny studio as a Photographer working on portrait. Then spells with other agencies and Explore Worldwide Travel with one dream assignment in Sri Lanka bought me to Blue Frontier. I have a list of companies I have worked for as long as your arm and I am entirely comfortable shooting multi genres. My work has been seen on TV, Online, brochure, social advertising, buses, posters, and in various print media. I also sell bespoke framed concept photography for private businesses and individuals.

A good photographer is part agony aunt, part psychologist, magician and scientist. I really strongly believe in the psychology between subject and photographer as well as skill and technical ability. I shoot with Nikon and generally stick to Primes. I also dabble with medium format and 5x4.

To talk more about his work, I really like his approach about portrait. All pictures show a great mastery and a deep respect to his models.

I love the way that Nick approaches portraiture, especially glamour portraits. I love the way that Nick approaches portraiture, especially glamour portraits. They are sophisticated in that I can read a lot from the way the photos are made; and insightful in that you can read a lot from how the model is portrayed and hence catch a short glimpse of their soul. I learn by rote: being able to see these things in a photo (and then post the multi-paragraph comment outlining such bites of technical wisdom) is helpful to me as I learn the art of portraiture myself. If you're starting out in portraiture and think that the sophistication of classical portraiture and the digital photography revolution are not mutually exclusive, then Nick's stream is worth keeping an eye on.
