By gaining stature as one of the world’s premier guitar trios, New West (NW) continues to bridge the genres of jazz, rock and chamber music. New West’s passion for exploring original compositions has enabled the group to unravel the limitations of a typical guitar ensemble and deliver highly acclaimed performances which have uplifted audiences

throughout the US, Japan, Europe, and Canada.

Beginning in 2003, New West worked closely with the University of Southern California to build on the many exciting opportunities offered to them within a major music conservatory. They were the first group to receive the coveted Thornton Protege Grant, followed by the first group to release a recording on the school’s own Flora Records label. New West was then asked in 2005 by the City of Los Angeles to accompany a delagation of city representatives to the Aichi World Expo in Japan. Since then, the group has created hundreds of performance opportunities for themselves by touring jazz clubs, theatres, and

music schools across Canada, Germany, and the United States. In particular, New West’s annual West Coast tour, featured performances in Berlin, Germany during 2007 and 2008, and highlighted performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival have all helped to establish the group in many regions across the world.

After releasing two full-length guitar quartet albums and one Live DVD Concert on Mel Bay Productions, New West now features a trio of Brady Cohan, Perry Smith, and John Storie. By taking full advantage of the entire acoustic and electric guitar soundscape, New West creates a rare chamber group devoted to the global music scene.
