Founded in 2004, New Matilda is Australia's second oldest online publication. We're fiercely, aggressively independent, and our site features the work of numerous award-winning journalists and writers. We're best known for our investigative reporting and political analysis, and while we cover a huge range of topics, we have a strong focus on Aboriginal affairs, rural and remote Australia, climate change, international affairs and #metoo reporting.

New Matilda does not put its content behind a paywall - it remains free to access for everyone (we write about some of the most disadvantaged people in the world... seems like a bit of a d*ck move to try and charge them to read about themselves). Some readers opt for a paid subscription to help keep the site running, which is always appreciated.
