~ About me ~
Updated February 8, 2019
I've been hanging around the Flickr scene for about ten years now, and my photography has evolved in that time. From 2007 until February of 2018, I shot strictly fixed-lens cameras - Fujifilm S700, S100fs, and X-S1 - I chose to use that time to try and learn photography without the added challenge of learning all about a DSLR and the associated lens choices. Was that a wise decision? I think so, for me anyway.
In 2018, I decided to visit the DSLR scene with the purchase of a new Nikon D5600 with 18-55mm kit lens. I deliberated for about two years on which DSLR to begin with, and after settling on the D5500, I found it was no longer available, so my natural choice was the upgraded version. OK, maybe not the best camera in the world, but the best choice of camera for my photography style and budget. Actually, Canon and Pentax were in the running, but the D5600 checked more boxes on my list. In about a year of ownership, I've had no regrets.
My lens collection has naturally grown and I really like the ability to travel light when I wish, as compared to my fixed-lens-superzoom days, when I was burdened continually with all that glass. Note! I still use (and I love the image quality from) the S700. It is a great canoeing camera, as I can leave it on Auto and take snapshots quickly. The 10x zoom is quite handy for wildlife photos, and if I drop it overboard, I'm not out a lot of money. It has paid for itself and the rest is a bonus.
I'm a believer that the best camera in the world is the one you have in your hands at a given moment in time; therefore, you will also find a number of photos in my photostream that have come from a cell-cam of one sort or another.
Not only has my gear evolved, but my photographic interests have seemingly changed over the years. Although the great landscape photographers and their beautiful imagery still spark desires in me, living in farm country just doesn't do a lot for my compositional imagination. I seem to have therefore been drawn more to smaller landscapes of the close-up variety, along with a few of the more expansive views I run across.
You will find that my photostream consists of impulsive snapshots and documentary photos, as well as carefully thought out compositions, and it will likely continue with that pattern. I'm retired and I don't really have a plan. I do enjoy being out in the world of nature and taking in all that God has provided - photographing it is just a natural extension of that enjoyment - sharing what I view tends to follow.
I hope you enjoy some of what I've shared.

My blurb - Circa 2009...
Having been raised in the out-of doors, camping, boating, etc., my interests naturally gravitate in that direction. Landscapes of the photography greats, such as Ansel Adams, and David & Marc Muench just add to my appreciation of nature. The digital revolution combined with the support and encouragement of a good friend and fellow Flickr member renewed an interest in photography that spans three decades plus. Although my photos will likely not grace the cover of any publication, if I can relax one's mind or take that mind on a mental journey to another place or time, for but a few brief moments, I have accomplished my task.

As time permits, I will comment on exceptional photos and respond to comments on my photos. Constructive criticism is always welcome.
Thanks to all of you out there who have guided me on my journey in this wonderful and exciting hobby called amateur photography.
Likely I will share any of my photos, but the courtesy of asking permission would be appreciated, thank you.

P.S. I don't mean any disrespect to those who get involved, but personally, I have no interest in Explore. Also, I would rather have one brief, yet sincere comment on one of my photos than to have any number of graphic awards posted in the comment section.
