I love the way colours and textures can be combined to make something exquisite. My fascination for fashion is triggered by the way society can almost instantaneously be influenced by a single garment, For example the Sixties Mini Skirt by the Designer Mary Quant. Studying Textiles and Fine Art for both GCSE and A-level has been eye-opening and enjoyable. Fine Art has enabled me to showcase my imagination as well as helped to develop my research in both historical and contemporary art work which has also proved to be useful in my Textiles work. I find visiting Galleries to be enlightening and believe visiting Gallery’s can be a vital attribute to find inspiration for design projects.
Other influential sources for my designs are, Nature, my own Imagination or I even use established designs as inspirations. My favorite designer Alexander McQueen was also often stimulated by Natural Forms. My most memorable piece by Alexander McQueen “things rot” still amazes me. It was a dress that was almost entirely made of fresh flowers; I believe he was exploring decay. It is ironic that a dress made of rotting flowers could be so beautiful. Once I have gained skills in garment production and learn more about concepts in fashion I believe that I could one day have the potential to also be a creative mastermind like the late Alexander McQueen was.
I also really like Media such as Moving Image, I have completed a week long Intro to Film Making course with Chocolate Films gaining a certificate of achievement in august 2011. I have used digital SLR cameras to produce still images before and also enhanced images using editing software such as Photoshop, however I would like to gain a higher level of skill in this area.
I am hardworking, enthusiastic and determined.
