I have always loved all things needlecraft, not only for their practicality and daily use but also for their artistic quality. Something hand crafted and embellished, whether it is old or new, always catches my eye.I come by this love naturally through the encouragement and teachings of a long line of needlecraft enthusiasts and professionals.

My great grandmother, Nona, as a graduate of a prestigious needlework and lace school in Italy. She was known in her town for the lovely and unusual pillow shams, bed clothes and bedspreads she embroidered for her hope chest. My grandmother and great aunts were accomplished needle crafters. My great aunts, Zia Naomi and Cecile, worked with professional designers designing and executing intricate beadwork designs for wedding and evening dresses. My grandmother, Nanny, was a graduate of another needlework school

in Italy where she proudly graduated at the top of her class! Nanny translated her experience in Italy to America where she landed in Boston and was known as an accomplished dress designer and seamstress for the rich and famous.

Some of my earliest memories of my mom, Tillie, were of the two of us making doll purses out of fabric samples. In every early picture of me and my brothers and sisters, we were wearing cute, matching outfits sewn by my mom. And, every weekend my mom and I, and then my son and I, scoured the yard sales, flea markets and antique shops looking for vintage needle work books, threads, beads and lace and handcrafted linens.

Now as I enter retirement, I am happy to share some of my many treasures with you. I hope they inspire you as much as they did my family and me. Enjoy!
