"The soul never thinks without a picture."
—Aristotle
I BEGAN SHOOTING with a basic Pentax, purchased in Toronto in 1973, that then sat in its box for many years until I began noticing the cloud formations from the fire escape of my Vancouver apartment (see the Water & Clouds of Southwestern British Columbia album). I added wide-angle and telephoto lenses and a tripod, and learned a lot during two years as a member of the Burnaby Photographic Society.
While living in the Marpole area of Vancouver, I began making photo-art greeting cards and have sold thousands of them; they have been sent to many corners of the world. Enlargements hang in offices and homes in Vancouver, and my images have been used in books, magazines and in advertising. I have participated in many craft fairs and several times in Artists in Our Midst days. My series of folk-art rural mailbox images appeared in Geist magazine and in Beautiful British Columbia magazine, and from there became part of the basis of a Canada Post series of postage stamps.
I now use a digital camera, which I take with me wherever I go; it is an extension of me, a way of being in the world; I respond with it to what I am seeing. What I look for in my day-to-day environment is beauty, shape, colour, pattern, humour, connectedness of the sky and the earth (the above and the below), and always, depth and quality of light.
I enjoy what I do; I hope you will too.
