I am currently working in church communications by day, freelance graphic design by night. It definitely gets exhausting, but I am learning a lot. I graduated from Taylor University in 2001 with a BA in Fine Art. I worked for the next 2 years at a publishing house near Chicago where I was able to learn a ton from some talented designers. I then taught K-12 art in Vienna, Austria at and American International School. I loved teaching, and I LOVED Vienna. I miss both a lot.
Life brought me back to where I grew up in South Florida, where I am trying to figure out what to do with this hodge podge of creative experience. I am learning the ropes of freelancing... I don't love it, but it pays the bills. There are a lot of days that I just want to sit at home and paint. I wonder a lot what would happen if I had the freedom to do that - I would love to know where I would go if I had that luxury. I would love to go back to school to get my MFA.
As an artist I pride myself on being very adaptable and learning quickly. But I find myself doing so much for other people, and it never really comes out of ME. I know God made me this way with many creative skills and desires - but sometimes I think I am selling myself short. I know life is a process and I am in a place where I need to be in order to make it to the place that I long to be - so I try not to be too critical of myself in the meantime.
So I'm taking it one day at a time, welcome criticism, look for a challenge and desperately seek to be better.
