For over 40 years, while also employed as a Forest Service smokejumper and Merchant Marine officer, photography has been the predominant force in my working life. I first picked up a camera seriously while serving with the Navy in Southeast Asia and have yet to put it down.

With an accent on the maritime world, my best work derives from projects like my extensive coverage of America's fleet of tall ships. But I'm also equally experienced in covering the terrestrial environment, with an emphasis on the convergence between the human and natural worlds.

I'm now work exclusively with digital cameras which permit me to turn jobs around faster, at lower cost and submit them electronically to clients anywhere in the world. I've also done a significant amount of freelance writing, and can provide picture/text packages for any need.

As a co-founder of the North American Nature Photography Association, I served as the first Editor of NANPA's official publication, Currents. And I hold degrees in both anthropology and communications (my thesis for the latter examined what motivates otherwise seemingly normal people to seek a career in photography).
