Riksarkivet har ansvaret for arkivene etter den statlige sentraladministrasjonen, altså departementer og direktorater med mer, og i tillegg arkivene etter Høyesterett. Du finner også viktige arkiver etter privatpersoner og etter private virksomheter som bedrifter og organisasjoner i Riksarkivet. Riksarkivet ble opprettet i 1817.

The National Archives' Central Office in Oslo is responsible for the records created by the government's central administration, i.e. ministries and directorates, etc., as well as the archives of the Supreme Court.
