For many years, I have been documenting the urban and rural decline in its many forms in America. While I used to find it invigorating, I now find it exhausting and somewhat sad. The world is now a different place and the meanings of these things have changed. Besides, there are too many people doing it. Too many photographs of old cars in front of old buildings and all of them are a little bit too high-key for my taste. Everybody imitating everybody else, to what end I am uncertain. At one point, I thought about giving photography up entirely. Then I began to recall the simple joy of hunting down a landscape image and working slowly and methodically to try to bring it to life. This made me reconsider. So, I have decided to return to my first love, the landscape. While my emphasis will now be on photographing the landscape, if a tasty piece of urban or rural decay should happen to cross my path, I will not drive past it, I will just no longer seek it out.
