The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Massachusetts (NAMI Mass) is a nonprofit grassroots, education, support and advocacy organization. Founded in 1982 and obtaining 501(c) (3) status in 1999, NAMI Mass advocates for nondiscriminatory and equitable federal, state and private-sector policies; educates the public in an effort to eliminate the pervasive stigma surrounding mental illness; and provides support to individuals with mental illness and their families. The state’s voice on mental illness, NAMI Mass, with 22 local chapters and almost 3,000 members, is comprised of individuals with mental illness, family members and others in the mental health community. The chapters are located throughout the Commonwealth. The mission of NAMI Mass is to improve the quality of life both for people with mental illness and for their families. NAMI Mass offers all their education and support programs for free to participants.
