Het Nieuwe Instituut beheert een van de grootste architectuurcollecties ter wereld. Ongeveer 500 archieven en verzamelingen van Nederlandse architecten, stedenbouwkundigen, beroepsverenigingen en opleidingen over de periode 1850-1980 worden ontsloten en voor publiek toegankelijk gemaakt.

Het Nieuwe Instituut is ontstaan uit een fusie van het Nederlands Architectuurinstituut, Premsela, Nederlands Instituut voor Design en Mode, en Virtueel Platform, kennisinstituut voor e-cultuur.

Het Nieuwe Instituut has one of the largest architecture collections in the world; eighteen kilometres of shelves containing drawings, sketches, models, photographs, books, journals and other materials. Het Nieuwe Instituut is entrusted with the safekeeping and management of these archives and collections and with making them accessible to the public.

Het Nieuwe Instituut arose out of a merger between the Netherlands Architecture Institute; Premsela, the Netherlands Institute for Design and Fashion; and Virtueel Platform, the e-culture knowledge institute.
