Kelsey Foreman was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana in August of 1987 and raised in Slidell, La. Growing up around New Orleans offered her the opportunities to grow as a creative person in all kinds of creative expression.
When it comes to her work, you will find the pieces are as ecclectic and diverse as the person creating them. Her approach is very much rooted in maintaining the integrity of the emotion she is feeling at the moment and the mediums she is using for the work. There is great joy found in allowing a piece of work to just happen, for Kelsey, its the most organic way to work.
There is no sketching prior to begining the painting. Once the vision is clear in her mind, she begins to work with any materials she may have on hand. Simply laying the media on the surface and seeing how they react to each other. For the most part, Kelsey is a summary painter, meaning each piece is done in one sitting, which is the reason for the work being so emotion-driven. It must be painted in the moment and must allow her to fully express that emotion. Art proves to be a way of cleansing for her.
Kelsey studied Fine Art at the University of New Orleans and has an Associate’s degree in Graphic Design from Delgado CC in New Orleans. She currently works as an artist doing commissioned work and freelance design in the Greater New Orleans area and runs her own company, Cake Face Soaping, which she created as an additional outlet for expression. Kelsey has shown in many exhibitions in New Orleans and the surrounding area since 2005 and continues to do so.
