"Capturing Moments of Beauty in Life"

capturing

Definition: recording or expressing accurately in words or pictures

I’m not sure I would consider my work as Art, in a sense because I am not trying to interpret what I see I am simply trying to accurately record what I see. I do however aim to convey not just a physical record but also the emotional and spiritual connection. Is this then interpretive, and therefore Art?

moments

Definition: a brief period of time

Henri Cartier-Bresson coined the now famous phrase “the decisive moment” and I think it is incredibly powerful not just within the Street Photography genre where he is so revered. It is just as true when photographing animals are capturing a sunrise, these are fleeting and often missed unless you are purposefully seeking them out.

life

Definition: well the way I see it that’s really up to each of us to define

That thing that passes us by in an instant if we are not careful. Photography has offered me an opportunity to slow moments in my life down, they may be just moments in an otherwise busy life but I am very grateful for them. We hear it from so many different fronts that we need to slow our lives down, or our lives pass us by so any opportunity to change that is welcome in my book.

beauty

Definition: a combination of qualities that delights the aesthetic senses

My objective is to capture beauty and of course this is interpretive as it is beauty through my eyes. This may be as simple as a delicate petal or a grand landscape, man or man-made. The one thing you will not see from me is journalistic type photography, there is enough pain and misery in life and I do not wish to actively seek it out. Is this overly simplistic? Probably but I’m ok with that.

BIO

"After many years spent experimenting with film in my teens and feeling deeply dissatisfied with the results I lost my way somewhat with photography during my 20's, focusing on many other interests in life. In fact it was only very recently, during my honeymoon in 2006 did I reacquire the 'bug'. Digital photography for me provided 'the something missing' with my film experiences of my teens.

I haven't looked back since that day and have been refining my technique ever since. I have found photography affords me the opportunity to share my view on life around me. It has in many ways reconnected me with nature. I now notice the tiniest of details in the natural world, often times missed in the rush of modern life."
