I am 59 years old. I grew up in near San Francisco, and after turning 12, discovered backpacking in the Sierra. After climbing a number of Sierra peaks, I became determined to visit the Himalaya and climb as high as possible. But by the middle of my first of five trips there, I fell in love with the people, language, and customs.

So my focus literally changed somewhat to include these tough, funny, and brilliant people.

Time passed; I came home and married Susan and we had a son, Miles. I became one of the Relief Rangers for the Yosemite Association stationed at the Ostrander Ski Hut in the Backcountry of the Sierra. Over the years i have been in multiple search and rescue situations. I used to like helicopter flights, but after a few bad moments my mind had changed.

In 1990 Susan and I bought Albany Arts Gallery in the San Francisco Bay Area where we showed our work and taught classes in pottery and photography. In 2011 we sold it to our son Miles and two of my former students.

We now live in Oregon, by the merciless Rogue River, which does not give up its legendary fish easily, at least to me.

I have been making photos for 40 years and selling photos for 28 years; I do it because of the compelling display of grace and beauty that surrounds us and because people actually want to buy them...

We have had an on-line shop of one kind or another since 1996. My wife Susan and I do all the work ourselves, including the printing which I have a fanatical interest in.
