"My great mistake, the fault for which I can't forgive myself, is that one day I ceased my obstinate pursuit of my own individuality."

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)

Muzafar Muneer, born in 1977, grew up in a large family with the habit of collecting antiques and old porcelain. Later on, during secondary education, he started collecting toys and comics and ventured into the unique toys business. It was only in 1994, with his first hand-me-down pentax auto110 camera, did he started to enjoy taking pictures through the viewfinder of the camera.

His passion of photography brought him to another level in 1999 when he was tasked to be the unit photographer during his days as a regular communications specialist. His stint in the army made him familiar with covering army functions and brought him to places like Taiwan where the love for abstracts and event photography became his next interest.

While serving the army, he pursued a degree in psychology to learn more about human behaviours and the fundamentals of counselling in psychology. However, in 2003, whilst juggling his degree and coupled with the workload of an Army regular, he was forced to stop photography for a period period of time. It was only in 2005, when he graduated and a freak accident that required him to have a metal implant on his left shoulder, did he took up photography seriously.

Enrolling in a portraiture workshop by a renowned Master photographer, he emulated what was taught as a wedding and events photographer. Balancing a mix of traditional portraiture and photojournalistic photos, he soon found his comfort zone in doing street photography. Now, a Social Worker with a Voluntary Welfare Organization and after 7 years of photography experience, his current project, “Doors” is but another metaphor, a metaphor of himself and one of which he relates to every day with people.
