My full name is Serguei Moutovkin, though I don't like this French spelling (French was (is?) the official language in Russian International Documents). I like all things tech and all things engineering.
Currently living in Irvine, California, with prior 20 years in Toronto, Canada. I moved to Canada way back in 1997 from the place where I was born - Moscow, Russia.
Photography is my long-running hobby. I started taking pictures when I was 6 years old on my grandfather's Zorki film camera and by 8 got my own Lomo camera. For the next 8 years, I was upgrading regularly moving through several cameras like F.E.D. 50, Agat 18k (was saving on film while in school) and arriving at my last film camera - Zenit 122K. Ten years later I got my first Digital SLR - Canon Digital Rebel XT. For the next 13 years, I was a Canon shooter with Rebel XT, 40D, 7D being my cameras in short succession. Finally, in 2018 I switched to Micro 4/3 and Panasonic Lumix G9 specifically. I got some excellent glass during the transition - some Panasonic Leica (8-18, 12-60, 42.5 f/1.2, 100-400, 12 f/1.4, 45-200 f/3.5-5.6) and 60mm f/2.8 Olympus Macro.
In the past, a number of supplementary cameras were always around - SONY RX100M3 (a great camera, but sold it before betting Micro 4/3 camera) and Panasonic TS5 for wet adventures and one of the smartphones to take now popular low-fi photos.
At the end of 2018, a radically new camera landed in my backpack - DJI Mavic Air. The perspectives previously unseen are possible, wherever it is allowed to fly the drone. Fewer and fewer places do...
