In 2005, a guy and a Hungarian Pumi dog decided to visit a United States Forest Service rental cabin in Washington state. They liked the experience so much they returned again and again. Years passed by until one day, as they were stepping through the doorway for the umpteenth time, the guy had an epiphany. He suggested to the dog that maybe they should try visiting another forest service rental besides this one. That maybe they should visit as many as they possibly could before they grew old and died. The dog agreed.
So in 2009, a quest was born. It threw them like stones across the northwest section of the United States. Five years later the dog died and the quest stopped. Then another dog took his place and it began again. Eight years after that another dog joined the pack.
To this day the three of them are out there, conspiring to visit U.S Government rentals available to the public and create a photographic record like no other. Retired fire lookouts, guard stations, ranger stations and remote cabins. 103 of them are presented here on Flickr. The rentals are organized in Albums and listed in backwards chronological order, most recent visits first.
Hopefully the message of this collection is clear. Not only will the photographs and information hold firsthand historical significance but they are also meant to give you a better chance of reaching your own destinations. Challenges, adversity and adventure await. Have the time of your life.
