I'm a quiet guy who loves local Illinois history,as my 2 sets on the I&M Canal will attest...insects are a big passion as well. I joined Flickr to meet like-minded people, and to marvel at the exquisite images by other photographers. I enjoy sharing any of my (admittingly little) knowledge of local history, bugs, and photography with anyone who asks! Since Flickr is somewhat of a social site,I comment on all contacts photos, even if it is one word...if you are a contact of mine, rest assured I will see your photos. For that reason,I keep my contacts at a reasonable quantity, and if you are looking to add me and have over 150 contacts,I probably will not add you. I find it hard to keep up with 100,how does one do it with 1000??? I use a D-SLR and P/S...and firmly believe that one's technique contributes far more to a great image than the brand or type of camera...i.e. a 5000.00 camera and lens does not guarantee a superior result...it is what YOU do with it and how it is used that is most important. After all,you wouldn't ask a famous writer which brand of typewriter/word processor/computer he/she used to write that prize winning book with, would you? I think not,but a lot of camera folks think that dropping 5 grand makes them a pro....I have seen stuff done with a P/S that blows away images done with cameras costing 20 times as much. The difference? Lighting and composition, 2 things cameras cannot do for you. So get out there, shoot images ,and don't worry about what you own...=-)

No where is Joe's patience or mild nature more evident than in his amazing bug shots. I started out, years ago, marvelling at the pictures themselves, and in time came to marvel over the man behind them. The more inspired I felt to try to emulate his work, the more I came to understand the patience that quietly rests behind every one of these images that we look at. Obviously both content with and inspired by the world he inhabits, Joe is an exceptional photographer who does all that he can, in his own quiet way, to share that contentment and inspiration with anyone who gazes upon his images.

He always comments on my photos and gives me great encouragment. When I read his profile, I learned a lot about him and feel very lucky that he found me in the world of Flickr. I was a new nature photographer and stumbled around a lot, but he helped me with his praise and kind comments. The day he added me to his list of contacts was a very lucky day for me!! Not only just the I&M, but his knowledge of insects as well. If I have a question about nature, or the I&M, he is right there with the answer. His macro work is unspeakable. True art, and he takes pride in it. You can just tell by his pictures, and the quality of them. It is a true pleasure to have him listed as my "friend" on flickr.
