I started taking almost-daily photos in October, 2006. l usually take nature shots--close-ups of plants and animals or views of the sky. The shots I take are, frequently, scenes I would have, in the past, pointed out to a companion. The joy is that, now, I can keep those views & share them with a broader community! My photos are usually not altered, except by cropping & slight balance adjustments. I use many of my photos as computer wallpaper. I love the contact that flickr gives me with people around the world & the opportunity to see the great art photos they produce! Many of my flickr friends specialize in their photo subjects--butterflies, birds, landscapes, shield bugs. If I were to describe my photography, I guess I'd say that I like to highlight the small things of nature!
The camera I started with is an Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom--a light-weight point & shoot digital camera with 4 mp & 10X zoom. At the beginning of May, 2007, I started using the macro setting on my camera. This opened a whole new world of beauty to me.
In September, 2011, I took early retirement from education & am spending more time on photography. There has been some interest in my photography--website, magazine, book, & corporate. It's satisfying to realize that others enjoy what I do. I present my photos under the name B. Bowen Carr Images, in honor of my dad.
In April, 2015, I purchased a new camera--a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40, a 3/4 lb. point & shoot w/ 30X zoom & 18 mp. It is a bit easier to switch to macro setting than my previous camera & I can get decent shots of butterflies & dragonflies from 1-2 feet away, rather than 1-2 inches. In addition to the Lumix, I sometimes use the camera on my first generation iPhone SE.
Sadly, during 2021, my Lumix camera started failing & I was unable to arrange repair of it. Panasonic has a bad reputation for customer service! Nonetheless, because I like the size, weight, & controls, I purchased a newer model in the Lumix line--DC-ZS70. I started using it on March 15, 2022.
In January, 2023, I replaced my iPhone with the SE 3rd generation (2022). Improved camera! I use my phone almost as often as my Lumix camera.
