I appreciate it when you love my work ....so If you'd like to use one of my images for any reason, please contact me and we will find a solution...

Please let me know when you want to blog my photos....

NO AWARDS PLEASE!...They are very well appreciated, but it is just too much and too easy. I'd rather hear what you actually like or dislike about my pictures. I don't mind group invitations, but please also refrain from using large and flashy invitation icons ...

With these messages out of the way....here's my real profile:

Hi... and welcome to my little space on flickr. I am a free lance photographer based in Hong Kong. Please feel free to leave a message, fav, comment or testimonial, it will be greatly appreciated.

I love this community for its great people, inspiring work and vivid interaction with fellow photographers. Thanks to all for making this such a great and inspirational place on the Internet....

My first 4 years on flickr are coming up soon...... in stats it looks something like this:

- Many, many hours online (too many acc. to some ;-))

- Over 350,000 photo views

- thousands of comments and favs

- many of my pictures blogged elsewhere

- pictures used for newspaper, tv shows, travel brochures, training material and magazines

- 360 contacts and many new real life friends

- 555 people call me a contact

- 336 group memberships,

- 100 pictures in explore

- and over 2,000 pics online ...

- flickr is still my browser homepage after all this time....

It is a great joy to open flickr every day! ... I have to admit: I am still hooked....but, I also fail to have time enough to do and see it all....

While watching so much inspirational work on flickr, my own photography has improved significantly over the past years.

I don't want to stick to single themes or style and I am always in for something new. Luckily Hong Kong has enough to offer to do so....

Please do contact me when you are in or coming to Hong Kong and want to:

- photowalk by day or night

- shoot Hong Kong's highlights

- hike Hong Kong's fantastic and scenic countryparks

- take photography classes

- buy or sell professional equipment

and I for sure will be able to help out.

A little bit about myself:

I am Dutch and I live and work in Hong Kong. I bought my first SLR in 1993 when I fell in love with the Minolta 700si and I have been shooting since.

Before 1993 my life was (being) captured on Agfa 120 cameras and I have yet to come around and open the archives and scan the best.

I do hope to add some history however...as there is certainly material worth showing.....If scanning just wouldn't take sooooo much time..

When I moved to Hong Kong I decided it is time for something new and sold my Minoltas and gear in order to make the inevitable shift to digital.

The Nikon D200 just came out and it looked too good a camera to let go........I have absolute no regrets.....however .... I did look back and added a Nikon F5 film SLR to my collection.....I just couldn't completely let go shooting film......I still love that moment to first see the pictures after they are developed and printed....

My equipment:

Compact Camera:

Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 - died in action... ;-(

Ricoh Caplio GX100

(D)SLRs:

Nikon F5

Nikon D80

Nikon D200 - sold

Nikon D3

Nikon D700

Lenses:

10.5mm f/2.8G Fisheye DX

50mm f/1.4D

85mm f/1.4D

105mm f/2.8G VR Micro

17-55mm f/2.8G

14-24mm f/2.8G

24-70mm f/2.8G

18-200 f/3.5 - f/5.6 VR

70-200 f/2.8 VR

For flash I use 1 Nikon SB-800

I use a Manfrotto monopod as well a Manfrotto tripod and a GorillaPod with Manfrotto ballheads

LowePro backpacks to carry it all in. These bags contain a lot of filters, batteries and other small stuff as well.......and tend to be too heavy all the time ;-))

Software:

Apple Aperture 3.0

Adobe Lightroom 3.0 (preferred)

Adobe Photoshop CS5

Web:

The new flickr site, which rocks

TheGOOD Uploader for flickr;-)

Firefox 3.6 with GreaseMonkey and numerous flickr scripts

HoudahGEO for geotagging photos

www.WordPress.org for www.marksimonsphotography.com

GraphPaperPress Web site templates

Hardware:

Mac Pro 3.0 8-core 12Gb Ram

MacBook Pro 17in; 3.0Ghz 8Gb Ram

Lots of Storage incl. QNAP 5bay NAS

Backblaze online backup. These guys rock!

I do tag my photos with the equipment used and publish EXIF data. I am in the process of geotagging my photos as well. Doing it manually is too much of a hassle, so I now have a GeoMtr GPS tagger attached to my camera.

Please contact me in case of any questions re. my photos or shooting in Hong Kong......I'd be delighted to go shooting with fellow enthousiasts..Do drop me a line if you are visiting this great city and need some tips....

Hope to see you back here soon!
