My interest in photography first started around 2008, which was when I acquired my first camera, a compact Sony DSC-W170. I initially sought to use this camera to capture pictures for social events, but when I started taking it to gigs and on holidays I realised it had much more potential. I also realised that I seemed to have an eye for interesting shots and perspectives, and some luck in achieving such shots. I started experimenting more with the settings on my camera.

The limits of a compact camera, however, soon became apparent, particularly with issues like limited zoom, pixelation when zooming in on photos and natural shake causing blur in low-light situations. It was then that I decided to invest in a Canon 1000D DSLR in December 2010. Since then I have been using it to produce better shots and be more experimental.

I also use Adobe Lightroom 3 to process the photos I shoot in raw format so that the final product looks more vibrant in comparison to the original photo.

Most recently I have purchased an Olympus OM-30 SLR film camera with a 28mm lens. My reason for branching out into non-digital photography is to see what kinds of interesting photos I could produce with an old film camera as compared with what can sometimes feel like over-polished and over-processed digital photos from a DSLR.

The kind of things I like to take photos of include urban architecture, the natural environment and people (preferably in the act of doing something rather than posing). I am also interested in gig photography, as I like to capture local bands (including my own band) as well as bands I go to see at gigs and concerts.

The effects I try to emphasise in my photos are natural and artificial light; vibrant and vivid colours; grain; shadows and contrast.
