My name is Matt and I am an amateur photographer. I took some darkroom classes in highschool and the subject immediately caught my interest. My passion is film photogaphy and working in the darkroom, but I recently made the jump to digital and found it to be a lot more fun than I anticipated.
I'm self taught when it comes to the digital aspect of photography. I really enjoy experimenting and trying new techniques, so if you have any tips or ideas I would love to hear them.
I try to do as much as I can while setting up the shot to avoid having to post process. I believe that if one solely relies on post processing to create good photographs then they're simply compensating for poor planning and/or a general lack of skill in photography basics. Knowing what factors contribute to a good photograph and how to manipulate those factors before you shoot far outweigh the special effects of Photoshop.
With that said, I fully respect and admire those who can use Photoshop to its full ability. It has the potential to create amazing works of art and It's a lot of hard work and requires quite a bit of skill to do so efficiently.
In regards to my work, my photos are slightly edited in terms of contrast/brightness and shadows/highlights in order to refine any rough edges and make the detail stand out, but I try not to stray too far from the original shot.
