While I absolutely love photography, I am primarily a painter (all media except acrylic). I began shooting as a way of keeping a visual notebook and with the advent of the computer with its photo editiing programs, photography became as immediate as painting for me. My photos have evolved into their own voice, which is more graphic than my other work. I am not trained as a photographer and don't really know much about the computer programs either. I use Picasa, and tried Photoshop for a while, which I have to get back to. Nothing fancy. I would sometime like to combine photos and pigment/pencil.
I am very eclectic in what I photograph. Anything from gritty cities, to grand landscape, to my garden, from realism to total abstraction is fair game, and I reserve the artistic fun of enhancing, or not, as the image seems to want. Therefore, my stream is very unpredictable, and if unity is desired, I refer you to my many sets, which are set up according to theme.
Most of the non-photo work on my stream is my small work which is mostly scanned. Naturally the color is not as accurate as I like, but that is my level of computer tech, and at least you get the idea.
Travel is frequent in my household, and while this is absolutely glorious, it leaves me with not as much time as I want. Sound familar, no matter what your lifestyle??? As a result, I tend to fave a lot of photos rather than leave comments. When I do comment, the photo has demanded it! I am very sorry for this, as we all really like and deserve thoughtful comments. I mean it. I love talking color, form and theory. By the way, interests also include music, books of all kinds, history and science.
As for bio, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I went to Cass Technical High School where I studied art and had the best technical art training I ever received. The Univ. of Michigan gave me a BFA in painting and drawing, and I taught art to wonderful elementary school children in Ann Arbor. My husband and I traveled to a couple of jobs for him, and we had two children, and wound up in Chicago and then Evanston, a north suburb of the city. Although I never stopped drawing, I 'brushed' up in painting in Chicago and Tucson, Arizona and spent a few years teaching adult watercolor and drawing at the Evanston Art Center. I am at the age of Elder Elegance (another reason for not so much time, I get tired!)
I deeply believe Nature is our first and last teacher. I gave myself the art name of Snowpine symbolizing everlasting, clean, fresh, gentle and strong. Flickr is a wonderful group and I would like to thank everyone for their appreciation, gentle critiques and very talented eyes! My work has done nothing but improve since I joined this fascinating group of artists.
