I'm passionate about plants (botany *and* horticulture), the planet, arts, ideas, culture, language, egalitarianism, ex situ and in situ conservation of rare and threatened flora, and generally trying to make the world a better place.

All plants pictured are grown by myself unless otherwise noted. I don't treat horticulture as a competitive sport; I grow and photograph what I love and what interests me or those which I feel important to grow, regardless of whether others will be impressed.

I hope my photos will inspire more people to grow plants and pick up gardening as a hobby or get involved with protecting critical habitats of threatened plant species.

Though I enjoy receiving emails and comments, but currently I do not have the time to engage as I would otherwise wish to. I hope to be more available in the future for this, but I'm not currently readily accessible for email/comment correspondence.

Historically I chose not to mark my photos with watermarks for aesthetic reasons; I ask that you please respect my copyright (beware commercial photo thieves). I put a lot of love and resources into my photos and it gives me great joy for others to enjoy them. I retain full copyright to all my images and any reproduction requires my written consent prior to use. Apologies in advance if I don't respond in a timely fashion to requests for photo permissions; I currently have too many demands on my time.

I hope you enjoy my work :)

For years I've used my first and middle names interchangeably, but I no longer use the name Jacob. I'm now using my middle name Uluwehi but prefer the nickname Ulu (pronounced "oo-loo"). I don't mind my oldest friends calling me Jacob if they prefer it, but I no longer call myself Jacob.
