2021 arabic bender

2020 i found my chinese brush! so merging chinese lettering with arabic lettering

2019

russian style 'vyaz' goes very well together with arabic script. even though arabic is very cursive, it can be arranged into the vyaz format, and the lightweight lines of vyaz serve as the ligatures between the letters. it's a striking typestyle, and relatively easy to do

2018

i'm learning arabic script again. it's so complicated compared to roman lettering, i hadn't been game to do any calligraphy but after intermittent binges of studying over the last 8 years, i'm putting some letters together!

2017

decorative knots attracted my attention!

there was a lot to learn, and a lot of instruction online, and i'm engrossed by single-strand knots and two-strand knots.

i had learnt a handful of knots years ago, for everyday use, which included one knot, the 'diamond knot', which is also decorative; i recently became intrigued by stopper knots and the pattern and geometry of it all. obsessed. paracord is readily available and in tons of colours, so - i got tying!

i learnt a lot from: animated knots, paracord guild, whyknot, mabel marble, and i admire the example of: stormdrane, and tying it all together

----------------------------------------------------------

2016

i got engrossed by cyrillic lettering / alphabet and slavic 'vyaz' style calligraphy, learnt the alphabet - that took a full month... and learnt a few words... which then led to massive interest in learning russian language. that can happen. internet makes learning very possible - particularly audio. i'm addicted to literacy. it's a nice-sounding language. some is easy [spelling and pronunciation are consistent], some is difficult [uh, cases], almost prohibitively. so anyway i got into learning the language and forgot about vyaz calligraphy! but can get into it again - it looks striking yet appears to be straightforward - but it isn't; it is loaded with variation and many possibilities and styles within the style.

2015

i've gone back to calligraphy and lettering!

FILAMENTI is a new calligraphy decorative style using ligatures and swashes that are formed from the hairline branches of a letter. it is contemporary yet maintains a classical appearance.

the range of variation and application is vast;

it can be used to decorate capitals, lowercase, blackletter, pointed pen calligraphy, chancery, calligraffiti, many languages.

it can be used heavily or lightly, with fine width to with broad width.

i hope it will catch on and be adapted and utilised, in many languages, for many decades to come. or it might just be me!

I'm mostly on facebook. com/AlanaForestDesign, for ease of handling and sharing.

gdday all

my interest is in developing a new style of labyrinth, based on medieval geometry. i've called it the crossing labyrinth. its path crosses itself at various points along its winding way.

the intention is that the paths are followed straight through; the design is not to take a left or right turn when it crosses.

although the design is contemporary, its geometry is hundreds of years old; they are new but have a traditional appeal.

here they are in 3-, 5-, 7-, and 9-circuit configurations. they're new!

happy walking! :)

THANKS FOR TAKING A LOOK!
