I am a professional fine-art photographer working exclusively in black and white, using medium format Mamiya 7 rangefinder cameras with Ilford 400 Delta 120 film. I'm based in the English Peak District just north of Buxton and have been working in the photo industry since 1981. I hand print my work in the darkroom using Ilford Multigrade FB papers and am one of a handful of Ilford Master Darkroom Printers, and the only one trained by Ilford Photo during the 21 years that I worked for them. I also trained as a research chemist and have a PhD in chemistry from the University of Cambridge and am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry,

The camera information displayed by Flickr is wrong. All black and white pictures were taken on film cameras, mostly 120 roll film cameras: Mamiya 6 cameras from 1993 to 2006 and Mamiya 7 cameras from 2006 to present. My negatives are scanned at 4000dpi either with a Nikon Coolscan 9000ED film scanner or an Epson V800 flatbed scanner.

In addition to my own pictures, some of the images shown here have been taken by clients on landscape photography courses that I have run. These are in the Peak District and other areas of the UK.

As of 2023 I am semi-retired but still take photos with my Mamiya 7 cameras, make darkroom prints mainly using a DeVere 504 enlarger with an Ilford MG500 head and maintain my website www.davebutcher.co.uk and my Etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/DaveButcherPhotos
