My love of photography began as a kid with Kodak Instamatic 110 and 126 cartridge film cameras. In high school I learned how to use a SLR film camera and develop black & white film and prints.

During a 5 year stint in art school (BFA: Visual Art - University of Calgary), I bought a Nikon FG SLR 35mm film camera and studied photography and drawing, amongst other visual art and academic subjects. I developed a love of black and white photography & processes, and became really good at it… I won a few student awards. During this time I also bought a Yashika Mat 124 twin lens reflex medium-format film camera for portraiture and still-life. Towards the end of art school, my photographic practice had evolved into something that was less image-oriented, and more conceptual and object-oriented.

Then came the real world… For 5 years following graduation I explored commercial photography projects (weddings, portraits, still-life, misc.), graphic design, illustration, and a few fine art projects.

In 1995, I gravitated towards the brand-spanking new fields of multimedia, new media, interactive media and by 1996/97 it was almost all about the internet/web and it's new possibilities, including web-based applications (like Flickr).

During this time, I had a little falling-out with photography. I bought an Olympus Stylus point-and-shoot film camera and carried it with me everywhere. I moved away from SLR shooting. I focused more on composing my shots and less on the technology.

Then some sweet-tech evolved... the digital camera. I wanted one bad, but they were extremely expensive at the time, and the resolution was mostly terrible. So I bought a tiny match-box sized digital camera, a Spypen Luxo (1.5 mp) and started to experiment. I grew to love the lo-fi images it produced. Following this came the Nikon Coolpix (4 mp & 7 mp) and more experimentation. I was hooked again, this time on digital…

Currently I define myself as a Digital Media Designer (Web / Interactive / Information / UX / Graphic). I still love to photograph stuff: landscapes, abstracts, people, objects, travel, experiments, etc. I use a Nikon D80 (10 mp), and my iPhone 4S (8 mp).

I'm in the process of passing on the "photo-love" to my wife and 2 children, and anyone else...
