Can I post a photo from Mia's Flickr site on my social media site?
Most of our images on Flickr have the following Creative Commons license: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. In English, that means that you are free to post an image as long as you give the Mia credit. Your credit should look like this: "Photographers Name/Minneapolis Institute of Art" or "Minneapolis Institute of Art" if the photographers name is unavailable. We would also appreciate a link back to our Flickr site. If you see a different license then shoot us an email via Flickr.
May I photograph at Mia?
Yes-- with a few precautions to ensure the safety of visitors and artwork. If it is for personal use and without a tripod, feel free to use your still or video camera. Please note: photographing artworks that are on loan requires prior permission.
How do I know if an artwork is on loan?
On the label, look for the words "loan," "lent by," "private collection," or the name of another museum. Also, numbers assigned to a loaned object begin with an "L."
What if I want to use a tripod?
To inquire about tri-pod permission please download the tri-pod permission form below and follow directions. Please allow 72 hours for permission. If you have any questions, please call (612) 870-3000.

May I use a flash?
Yes, in most places. However, because of the delicate nature of fabric, please do not use a flash near textiles.
If you have questions, please ask one of our gallery guards. Staff at the Security Desk or a Visitor Service Desks will also be happy to assist you when you arrive.
