Tom Grant (aka Sthiramani)
Drag to set position!
I love nature and the natural world and find it very interesting and inspiring. Over time I have become fascinated with the insect life in the garden, and combine that interest with my enjoyment of nature photography in general. Close-up and macro shots allow details that can't easily be seen, and often leave me amazed at what I discover. I also enjoy contact with others who share my interest and seeing their photographs displayed on flickr.
Almost all the photographs shown here were taken in the garden where I live at Padmaloka Buddhist Retreat Centre in the UK. My family name is Thomas Grant, but these days I am more often known (and use) the name given when I was ordained in the Triratna Buddhist Order - Sthiramani. Originally from Ireland, I have lived and worked here for over nine years.
All through the year, and especially in summer, I walk in the garden several times a day. I feel quite lucky to live in such a beautiful place with a lot of space (over five acres). Anyone who has tried to photograph insects will know that it is not an easy task, and requires a lot of time and patience. As insects are mostly very active, with those that fly moving very quickly, there is an element of luck combined with some skill to get any decent photos at all...
I am pleased to receive regular contact requests, and to engage with people who want to engage with me. If you request becoming a contact please comment and/or fave some of my photos, and return to visit occasionally, and I will do the same.
